Resource Center Guide

DREI has established the first specialized real estate resource center of its kind in the region. The Resource Center offers specialized books, online resources, print and e-journals, special reports and other databases, each of which houses rich, extensive and well-researched information and diverse field of interest in Real Estate.

Who can be a member?

Membership of DREI Resource Center is open to all, from research institutions, NGOs, government and corporate bodies, to students, individual researchers, and faculty of educational institutions, consultants, journalists, and policy-makers.

Resources Available

Electronic resources

The online databases will act as a tool, segmenting journal articles, reports and statistics, in addition to helping researchers locate and retrieve articles from magazines and journals through the Internet by author, keyword or title.

  • The Online Databases and Journals that DREI has subscribed to are:
    • The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) is the world's foremost provider of country, industry and management analysis and the world's pre-eminent global research and advisory firm.
    • Emerald Insight has a wide collection of property and real estate periodicals on corporate real estate, facilities management, property investment, engineering, design and technology. It is the largest, most comprehensive collection of peer reviewed management journals and offers online support to librarians, students, faculty and researchers.
    • LexisNexis is a leading provider of comprehensive information and business solutions to professionals in a variety of areas — legal, risk management, corporate, government, law enforcement, accounting and academic. LexisNexis provides its customers with access to five billion searchable documents from more than 32,000 legal, news and business sources.
    • The American Real Estate Society (ARES) encourages research and promotes education in real estate through the exchange of information among universities, faculty and practicing professionals.
    • Business Source Premier: This is the industry's most used business research database, providing full text articles of more than 2,300 journals. Journal ranking studies reveal that Business Source Premier is superior to the competition in full text coverage in all disciplines of business, including marketing, management, real estate, finance, economics, POM, accounting, etc. Additional full text, non-journal content includes market research reports, industry reports, country reports, company profiles and SWOT analyses.
    • MEED (Middle East Business Intelligence) provides
      • Daily thought-provoking analysis and commentary on all the key Middle Eastern markets, companies and people, across sectors and countries
      • In-depth research reports and insight into the latest market trends
      • Quality data on the booming regional projects market
      • Networking opportunities through high profile conferences and events and exclusive, invitation only briefings across the region

PRINT RESOURCES

Books are arranged on the shelves according to subject, using a combination of characters, authors’ last name (s), and year published. The print resources include:

  • Reference materials including dictionaries, and encyclopedias
  • Newspapers
  • Magazines

Services (with minimal fee)

  • Photocopying permitted materials
  • Dedicated staff available to provide reference service via email and telephone
  • Customized Information service on request, which includes information gathering from different sources on a given subject and delivery of the same to the members.

Rules and Regulations

  • Members must have their Resource Center ID cards to check out material.
  • Using another member’s card is not permitted. Doing so may result in the suspension of future Resource Center privileges.
  • No book can be removed from the Resource Center without it being recorded in the manner prescribed by the Information Resources Regulations.
  • The Information Resources Coordinator may restrict or prohibit the borrowing of any book or journal.
  • Borrowing regulations for different categories of users and materials are determined from time to time by agreement with the DREI Management. Details will be made available in the Resource Center.
  • All materials borrowed from the Resource Center must be returned by the due date stamped on that item.
  • The Information Resources Coordinator may recall materials issued to any reader if the item in question is in demand by others. In such cases, items must be returned by the new due date specified on the recall notice sent to the borrower.
  • Borrowers are responsible for all items checked out in their name and/or their ID number, and this responsibility ends only when the item has been returned to the Resource Center and the issue record has been cleared.
  • The Short Loan collection will consist of texts on student readings’ list, which are in high demand. The loan periods will be very short to ensure that as many people as possible get a chance to read them. Off-prints (photocopies of journal articles and book chapters) will be placed in the Reference collection.
  • Journals and reference material will not be available for loan, but may be photocopied with a minimal fee, subject to copyright regulations.
  • Borrowed items are not allowed to be loaned to a third party without DREI’s permission.

Damaged or Lost Items

  • Items lost or damaged should be reported immediately. Items that need to be replaced due to loss or damage are charged at the replacement cost of the item + processing fee, if applicable. Replacement costs will be determined when the item has been declared lost. If an item is out of print, its replacement cost will be the total cost of an item for that subject.
  • If the membership card is lost, a fee of AED 50 should be paid for a replacement.

Corporate/Institutional Membership

  • Corporate Application Memberships apply only to 20 selected employees per organization. Otherwise, a new membership should be requested
  • A DREI Resource Center membership card will be issued to the selected employees
  • Members need to produce their company ID card, along with a letter of authorization from the company, and the DREI Membership card
  • Company has to bear all responsibilities for their employees; in case materials are damaged or lost
